Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) relaxometry

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) relaxometry is a unique method of studying molecular and ionic dynamics and structure. As the spin relaxation experiments can be carried out in a broad range of magnetic fields (in contrast to “classical” NMR studies), one can detect motional processes across a broad range of time scales (from ms to ps) by single experiment.  Most importantly, frequency dependent relaxation studies possess the exceptional potential to reveal not only its time scale of ionic motion, by also its underlying mechanisms:  like: isotropic rotation, restricted rotation, 3D (D-dimensional), 2D, 1D translational diffusion or other types of sub-diffusive processes. Moreover, as a quantum-mechanical process spin relaxation is a fingerprint of subtle interplays between various spin interactions providing information on dynamics and structure not available by other methods. The presentation is meant as an illustration of the potential of NMR relaxometry for investigating properties of condensed matter.
